The Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority is just one beneficiary of the more than $24 million dollars being infused into Hamilton County as a result of a second round of Neighborhood Stabilization Program funding. CMHA is a partner in the Cincinnati-Hamilton County NSP2 Consortium (CHCHC) that was awarded the funds in January 2010 and includes Hamilton County, the City of Cincinnati and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) in partnership with the Model Group.
CMHA and the City of Mt. Healthy entered into a collaboration to achieve the mission of the Neighborhood Stabilization Program, which is to stabilze areas of neighborhoods whose viability has been damaged by abandoned and foreclosed properties.
“We are excited to add this development to the City of Mt. Healthy, which offers both a solution to a troubled area of the city and new housing opportunities for Mt. Healthy residents,” said Mt. Healthy Mayor Joe Roetting. “The proximity of the development to local businesses, churches and restaurants and the walkability of the neighborhood will significantly enhance the quality of life for our residents.”
South Martin Street had been a chronic problem with building code issues and resident concerns for nearly 40 years. The NSP2 funds and the partnership between CMHA and Mt. Healthy have finally provided the opportunity to rectify the issues faced in this area of the city.
The new community will offer 60 comfortable, spacious apartments for seniors when completed. It will feature a walking trail, ample outdoor recreational space, indoor community space, washer/dryer hook-ups in each apartment and is conveniently located near public transportation.
“CMHA is pleased to be working with the City of Mt. Healthy to develop a community that meets the needs of its residents and also resolves a problem area that has been a source of concern for the city,” said Ted Bergh, CMHA Interim Executive Director.
