Last week CMHA Interim Executive Director, Ted Bergh, participated in the Hamilton County Coalition to Stop Fraud, Scams and Abuse, tax scams event 31 presented by Hamilton County Commissioner Greg Hartmann. Participants included representatives from the IRS, Council on Aging of Southwest Ohio, the University of Cincinnati and the United Way of Greater Cincinnati.
CMHA has shared the tax scam information with program participants by posting flyers at rental office locations, including in the resident newsletter, and educating staff who interact daily with residents and voucher holders.
Social work staff also assists clients in finding social service agencies and legitimate tax preparers. CMHA is committed to self sufficiency for its residents and has programs in place to connect residents to agencies providing financial management education and financial literacy classes that encourage residents to make good financial decisions.
